Located on the corner opposite Prachuap Bay’s main fishing pier, Wihan Phra Upakut, commonly referred to in English as Phra Upakut Shrine, is a revered seaside sacred site in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan associated with the belief in Phra Upakut, an arahant said in Buddhist tradition to reside beneath the sea and protect devotees from evil. Local people come to pay respects and pray for good fortune, prosperity, and success in trade. Common offerings include red sweet drinks and nam wa bananas, especially on the full-moon Wednesday observance linked to Phra Upakut.
