BANG SAPHAN NOI: A school of 38 “false killer whales” – a relatively large species of oceanic dolphin (Latin: Pseudorca crassidens; Thai: Waan Phetchakaad Dum วาฬเพชฌฆาตดำ) – was sited off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
The dolphins were reported to be looking for food during the period 24 August to 4 September, 2022.
According to Thailand Channel 7 News interview with Mr. Sophon Thongdee, director of the Department of marine and coastal resources department, the dolphins were spotted by a team from the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (Western Upper Gulf of Thailand) while conducting surveys as part of marine and coastal conservation efforts.. Observed from “a distance”, the dolphins were reported to be looking for food, and all said to be in good health.
