Hua Hin, May 24, 2024: Police on Friday (May 24) arrested a woman accused of defrauding numerous betrothed couples for deposits on weddings that never took place.
The suspect, named as Wimonrat was apprehended in front of an apartment in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. She was wanted under three arrest warrants issued by the Samut Prakan Provincial Court, Chon Buri District Court, and Thon Buri Criminal Court. The arrest followed numerous reports from victims who had been scammed by Wimonrat, who posed online as a wedding organizer. Victims had paid deposits for wedding arrangements that were never made, totaling 165,400 baht in losses.
Police investigations led to Wimonrat’s residence in Prachuap Khiri Khan, where she was apprehended. She faces initial charges of defrauding the public and fraudulently inputting or altering computer data to cause public harm. Wimonrat is now in police custody and will be handed over to investigators at Phra Samut Chedi Police Station for further legal proceedings, according to Khaosod.
