BANG SAPHAN: In a significant achievement for Thailand’s infrastructure, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) announced that the final section of the double-track railway connecting Nakhon Pathom to Chumphon via Prachuap Khiri Khan has reportedly been ‘fully operational’ since August 2024. This development is a key milestone in the Southern Railway Double-Track Project, which is set to transform transport infrastructure across southern Thailand.

The completed double-tracking of the 421 km stretch will enable faster and more efficient movement of both passengers and freight. By alleviating congestion on the single-track line, this project is expected to reduce travel time for commuters and tourists alike, making Prachuap Khiri Khan a more accessible destination. Moreover, the increased capacity will support the growing demand for goods transport, particularly agricultural products from southern provinces heading to domestic and international markets.
With expanded train services, travelers will benefit from improved schedules, better safety measures, and more comfortable travel conditions. The project will also contribute significantly to the region’s economy, as it facilitates more efficient logistics for businesses in the region.
The completion of the double-track railway is expected to lead to a boost in local tourism and further economic development in Prachuap Khiri Khan. The project also aligns with Thailand’s broader goal of improving transportation networks and boosting national economic competitiveness.
