PHETCHABURI, Province, June 7, 2024: An autopsy has been ordered to determine whether a decaying corpse discovered off the side of the road in Phetchaburi province last week is in fact a teen reported missing from the island of Phuket, and reportedly en route to Prachuap Khiri Khan province last week.
On Thursday (June 7), local media reported that Pol. Col. Thip Khengkhoom (พ.ต.อ. ธิป เข่งคุ้ม), Superintendent of Khao Yoi Police Station (สถานีตำรวจภูธรเขาย้อย) had led officers to inspect a gruesome scene on the southbound side of Phetkasem Road at kilometer marker 144 in Khao Yoi District (อำเภอเขาย้อย) where there lay a deceased female in a forested area.
The body, believed to be a teenage girl, was found approximately 15 meters from the road, clad in a black short-sleeved shirt, denim shorts, and a wristwatch, with visible tattoos. There were no signs of assault or identification documents found at the scene. The condition of the body suggested it had been there for at least a week, and drag marks indicated it had been moved to the location. Authorities have cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene.
Four days prior, a social media post by a user named “Alongkorn Phayakbura” (อลงกรณ์ พยัคฆ์บูรพา) highlighted the disappearance of a young woman, Benjarat Choeychan (เบญจรัตน์ เชยจันทร์), from Phuket (ภูเก็ต). Benjarat was last seen traveling from Phuket to Prachuap Khiri Khan with an unidentified man. Her family and friends had been desperately seeking her, believing she was in danger, and had filed missing persons reports in Nong Khai (หนองคาย) and Phuket.
The description of the deceased matches that of the missing Benjarat, raising the possibility that the body found in Phetchaburi might be hers. Her family has been informed and is traveling to Khao Yoi Police Station to assist in the identification process. The body has been sent to Phra Chomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi (โรงพยาบาลพระจอมเกล้า) for an autopsy to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.
Authorities continue to investigate and appeal for any information that could aid in resolving this case.
