PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: On May 29, 2024, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) issued a public warning regarding a scam involving individuals impersonating DSI personnel to defraud people into investing in land deals in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
Victims were allegedly misled into investing 300,000 to 600,000 baht, with promises of returns between 3 to 5 million baht. One victim reportedly invested 600,000 baht and faced threats from the fraudsters.
The scheme involved fraudsters claiming to be high-ranking DSI officials, legal advisors, or political party owners. They fabricated stories about inheriting valuable land, asserting that they had won court cases allowing them to sell the land. They would then solicit funds from victims to cover the land transfer costs, promising significant returns from the eventual sale of the property. When victims sought repayment, the scammers would evade and intimidate them. The victims have filed complaints with the local police.
The DSI urges the public to be cautious of anyone claiming to be DSI personnel and to report any suspicious activities through their official website www.dsi.go.th or the DSI hotline at 1202.
