Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan, 8 February 2026 — More than 100 rai [16 hectares] of protected forest were scorched in a fast-moving wildfire that broke out in Huai Yang Waterfall National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำตกห้วยยาง) in Thap Sakae District (อำเภอทับสะแก). The fire, which ignited around midday, was brought under control by evening, following an hours-long effort by national park officials, wildfire units, and local volunteers.

The blaze reportedly started near Ban Khao Po (บ้านเขาปอ) in Tha Mai Subdistrict (ตำบลอ่างทอง), spreading rapidly through dry grass and forest fuel. Teams from Huai Yang National Park, the Forest Fire Control Unit at Kui Buri–Huai Yang (จุดเฝ้าระวังไฟป่ากุยบุรี–ห้วยยาง), and a community firewatch network mobilized to cut off the fire line. According to satellite heat detection via the Suomi NPP system, two active hotspots were tracked as the fire spread.
By 17:29, responders had successfully contained the fire perimeter. While initial damage reports referenced 55 rai [8.8 hectares], on-site officials later noted the total fire-affected area was closer to 100 rai [16 hectares], taking into account nearby recently-burned land that reignited or was impacted by firebreak expansion efforts.
Officials are continuing surveillance of the affected zone to guard against potential flare-ups due to prevailing dry-season conditions. The park has urged the public to exercise caution with any fire-related activities.
