Prime Minister visits Hua Hin Airport on day off, Praises progress towards aviation and tourism hub status
On June 16, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin (เศรษฐา ทวีสิน) visited Hua Hin Airport in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province to assess its readiness and ongoing developments. The visit, which took place during his day off, focused on the airport’s advancements as part of a broader initiative to transform it into a key aviation and tourism hub.
Prime Minister Srettha posted on his Facebook page, stating in Thai “Phet-Hua Hin Airport” (สนามบินเพชรหัวหิน) has made significant progress. We are on our way to becoming an Aviation Hub and Tourism Hub. I previously inspected and expedited the runway expansion here. Today, I took the time during my holiday to check its readiness again. Currently, AirAsia operates a daily commercial flight between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai, marking a positive start in attracting more tourists.”
The Prime Minister highlighted the strategic importance of Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces as gateways to achieving this vision. He noted that AirAsia is prepared to expand flight routes from other regions, including the Northeast and South, to Hua Hin Airport. During the visit, he urged Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit (สุริยะ จึงรุ่งเรืองกิจ) and the Permanent Secretary for Transport to accelerate the improvement of service areas and coordinate with various commercial airlines to enhance flight services in response to the increasing number of tourists.
This initiative is expected to boost tourism and facilitate easier travel, thereby contributing to the local and national economy.
