Bang Saphan District: Thai Royal family member made local headlines during a recent visit to strategic sites in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse, also known as ‘Taan Aon’ (ท่านอ้น) is a son of HM the King Rama X, but does not currently hold a Royal ranking and is reportedly based out of New York City in the US. As reported in Thai media, he, along with a delegation, visited the steel industrial area in Bang Saphan district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The visit included a tour of the hot-rolled coil steel plant of Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI), a leading producer in Southeast Asia, and a modern hot-rolled steel production process. They also visited the Prachuap Port, operated by Prachuap Port Co., Ltd. (PPC), the deepest private commercial port in Thailand, capable of handling large quantities of raw materials and steel products. Mr. Win Wiriyapraipichit, CEO of SSI Group, along with executives and staff, welcomed the delegation.
Additionally, Khun Vacharaesorn expressed support for local fisheries and sustainable marine practices, collaborating with both governmental and SSI groups. Activities included enhancing coastal ecosystems through crab and aquatic animal banks, installing artificial reefs, releasing marine species, and beach cleanups. They also focused on educating fishing communities and youth, and developing market opportunities.
In this visit, Taan Aon released 3 million juvenile blue crabs and horseshoe crabs to enhance marine resources. He also visited the crab bank and the learning center of the Bang Saphan small-scale fishing group in Mae Ramphueng subdistrict, Bang Saphan district, initiated by local fishermen.
