TAP SAKAE District, June 14, 2024: Prachuap Khiri Khan Customs officials are looking into whether or not the 12 rogue bull cows they seized on Friday were smuggled into Thailand from Myanmar. According to a local media report, at 12pm on June 14, Mr. Ram Singthosapitak, the district chief of Tapsakek (ทับสะแก), assigned Mr. Thanongsak Rungrasmi, the deputy district chief, and Mr. Chat Chakam, the district administrator responsible for security, along with officers from the Huai Yang checkpoint, to inspect and seize 12 male cattle suspected of being smuggled into Thailand without passing through customs procedures. This act constitutes violations under the Customs Act B.E. 2560, Section 242, and the Animal Epidemics Act B.E. 2548, Section 31.
The cows were reported to authorities by Mr. Sommai Chaiyasang, the former village head of Village 5, Ang Thong Subdistrict, Thap Sakae District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province (จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์), who reported that he did not know owned the cattle, which were graizing near the public road and coconut grove in Ang Thong Subdistrict, which is located near the Thai-Myanmar border and is known for frequent smuggling of cattle and buffalo through natural routes. Due to the declining prices of cattle and buffalo in the country, officials suspect, and are looking into whether or not these cattle were smuggled from Thailand’s neighbor.
